Let’s talk about AI
Robot got more heart than I
- SZA
Amongst dozens of memorable lyrical moments, this line from SZA has been bopping around in my head as the AI discourse continues. The song it comes from is really exploring a different topic with Phoebe Bridgers, but in typical SZA fashion it pokes at modern social discourse. *resists going down SOS album deep dive*
I want to share here that I am listening closely to people on this topic right now. In particular, I am listening to learners of any age, educators, and those working in EdTech. Anyone working on products and services that support learning while hashing out how to leverage newly released AI capabilities… hi!
As I listen, I am looking to amplify voices and perspectives through our podcast, article publication, and this hear-ye hear-ye newsletter. And really, I am looking to apply it and grow in my own work.
I know several designers and researchers who have really doubled down in this area of GPT application and are available for part-time work. I’m happy to connect on that.
And I am happy to surface questions that readers might have for the teams working on some of these leading projects. I recently spoke with some of the Quizlet team who worked on Q-Chat, the ChatGPT powered tutor (see below), and I am set to soon be talking to more leading product teams leveraging GPT-4 in the learning space.
→ What questions do you have for them?
I haven’t addressed some of the serious concerns that also have been troubling me. But that is coming and I’d also love to hear your thoughts as well.
This is a historical moment for our industry. I’m over here tinkering and listening. 🎧

ChatGPT and Quizlet’s Q-Chat
🎙 This podcast episode is featuring a few members of the team who worked on Quizlet’s Q-Chat, the world’s first AI tutor built with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
I have with me:
Eli Kariv, Sr. Product Manager
Pranavi Javangula, Product Designer
Ling Cheng, Director of Machine Learning
Some of the things we discuss:
What problem is Q-Chat solving for? What user outcomes were you working towards?
A common question being asked is whether ChatGPT is a threat to education. What is your take on the topic?
What were some of the concerns you worked through as a team?
What feedback have you received since the release from educators and students? What have you observed?
It’s March, 2023. Will we still be talking about ChatGPT next year?
Advice for product designers, UX professionals, and product teams currently exploring and building with GPT and other generative large language AI models?

Job Spotlight at Logitech
Logitech is hiring an Education UX Intern.
Here are a few tips from the hiring Design Manager, Yena Ahn.
1. What is special about this role?
At Logitech, we design highly polished, human centered, branded, future forward experiences across both digital and physical touch points. This summer, you will get to focus on specifically inclusive classroom experiences where every learner feels supported and have a sense of belonging regardless of their learning preferences and conditions.
You will benefit from working in a unique and fast-paced design environment, working with multifunctional team of designers and adjacent disciplines (eng, business, product, etc).
2. What are you focusing on when reviewing portfolios?
We look for portfolios that have a strong narrative. Walk us through process you took, tell us how you approached the problem and made intentional design decisions to craft the best experience based on user insights.
Education is one of the most complex fields and need to appreciate the complex and varied intersectionality. That’s why we value systems thinking as a critical skill for our designers. We would love to see any project examples of how you considered the whole picture of the experience while working through details. (Projects that involve hardware or multiple type of users will be great to showcase this!)
3. Anything else that you would like to mention?
The work of designing inclusive environments for growing neurodiverse learners is deeply meaningful and rewarding, perhaps even more so should the intern be a neurodiverse individual.
